Biography:

Dennis Keith Lewis was born on April 13, 1961 in Wayne County, North Carolina to Leon and Ruth Lewis who were tenant farmers in their community of Pikeville.  Dennis worked on the family farm and attended school, graduating from Charles B. Aycock High School in 1979.  His father was a farmer and a Methodist minister and his mother also worked on the farm and went back to school and became a nurse after all six of her children were born.  From his family, Dennis learned a genuine work ethic.  Dennis is employed at Airgas/National Welders in Goldsboro, NC and is also a pyro technician for Hale Artificer Fireworks in Lexington, NC.  He and his wife Lisa live with their beloved dog, Lucy, in Pikeville, NC.

Early in life, Dennis developed a passion for our nation’s history.   Reading, studying, and gaining knowledge about all eras from the Revolutionary War to today’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  He has organized and hosted many events in the past years to honor our Veteran’s in Wayne County, as well as law enforcement and rescue personnel.  After forging many great relationships with veterans of the war in Vietnam, especially those with Perry Money and Johnny Mayo, Dennis developed a particular passion for this era.  Being an animal lover from early on, when he learned of the fate of our war dogs in Vietnam, he vowed to himself to do whatever he could to increase the public’s knowledge and appreciation for dog handlers and their four-legged companion soldiers.  This was when he proudly became associated with the Vietnam Dog Handler Association
