Gordon Lynn Hills

Lynn Hills was born on Nov 6th, 1949 in Roseburg, OR, to Esther and Orrin Hills.  He died on Feb. 19th, 2013 in Nampa, Idaho.

Lynn lived with his parents and older brother Gary in Sutherlin, OR until 1952 when his dad moved the family to Boise where he taught and coached at Boise High School.  The family moved to Nampa in the fall of 1954, where Orrin became Athletic Director and Men's basketball coach at Northwest Nazarene College.  Sister Sharlene and brother Steve were additions to the family during these years.

Lynn attended both Lone Star and Eastside elementary schools; and Central Junior High in Nampa.  He attended Tempe High School as a 9th grader where his dad was working on a post-graduate degree at Arizona State University.  The family returned to Nampa for Lynn's sophomore school year where he attended Nampa High School.  Lynn graduated from Nampa High in I968.

Lynn attended Northwest Nazarene College for two years and was then drafted into the US Army.  He became a military policeman and dog handler.  Most of Lynn's time in the Army was spent in Vietnam.

Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, Lynn returned to the Nampa - Boise area.  Much of his professional career was spent as purchasing manager at Treasure Valley Laboratory and then Interpath Laboratory, both in Boise.  He lived at his current address in Nampa for over 30 years.

Lynn would have to be considered one of the all-time best high school distance runners from the state of Idaho.  He won five State championships during a time when distance runners were allowed to run only one race of 800 meters or longer in a single meet (athletes could not ''double'' in the distance races).  As a Sophomore, he finished 2nd in the State XC meet (1965), behind older brother Gary.  He won the State XC meet the next two years, leading Nampa High to the team championship both years.  Nampa went on to win four team championships in a row from 1966-1969.  In track, Lynn set the State record in the 2 mile as a Sophomore (9:43); winning the State championship.  He won the State Mile championship the next two years; breaking older brother, Gary's, State record in the Mile as a Senior (4:18.1).  Lynn had a chronic Achilles tendon problem that cut his running career short, but he set the NNC school record in the mile as a Freshman (4:15.7).

Lynn had a unique sense of humor.  He had a real knack for making tough situations bearable.  His friendships were strong and stood the test of time.  He was a great brother and will be missed far more than words can express.

Lynn is survived by his mother; Esther Sanderson (Ernie) of Coos Bay, OR; stepmother; Darlene Hills of Nampa; brother Gary (Lavonne) of Livermore, CA; sister SharIene Barrett of Nampa; sister Kimberly Overcast of Billings, MT; brother Steve Hills (Lisa) of Beaverton, OR; brother Dave Overcast (Colleen) of Springcreek, NV; sister Julie Douty (Jim) of Greenleaf, ID; and multiple nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father Orrin Hills in 2001.
