Obituary:
Bonham-Funeral services for Jerry Nelson Suitor, age 70, of
Honey Grove, TX will be at 2:00pm on Monday, January 22, 2018 at
Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Bonham, TX.
Mr. Lonnie Parsons and Mrs. Vivian Crowson will officiate.
Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery with military
honors rendered by the Hunt County Honor Guard.
Mr. Suitor passed away on Friday,
January 19, 2018 at Clyde Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham, TX.
Jerry Nelson Suitor was born in Bonham, TX on April 17,
1947 to Monte Ray "M.R." and Etta (Hill) Suitor. He married Judy (Rittenberry) Suitor on June
26, 1971 in Honey Grove, TX. Jerry was a
loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He was an engineer and maintenance man at the
Bonham prison and Sara Lee in Paris.
Jerry was active among the Honey Grove community where he volunteered in
the softball, baseball and Boy Scout activities. He was known as "Mr. Fix It" around the community and was a
member of Honey Grove Cowboy Church.
Jerry served honorably in the United State Army from 1966
to 1968. He was proud to be a veteran;
an Army Sergeant serving in Vietnam as the handler of a scout dog, Paddy. Jerry received the following decorations
while serving; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Combat
Infantryman's Badge. Jerry was active in
the Honey Grove Vietnam Committee which was instrumental in helping to raising
money to bring the Traveling Dog Tags Memorial exhibit to Honey Grove to honor
the fallen heroes of Vietnam. Photos of
Jerry and Paddy were also used to create the model of the war dog and his
handler sculpture that is at the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial in Paris,
Texas.
Left to cherish his memories is wife, Judy of Honey Grove;
son, Michael Suitor and wife Angelique of Fate; daughter, Melanie Suitor of
Honey Grove; grandchildren, Johnathan, David, Alexander, Anja, and Jaxon; and
brother, Billy Suitor.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, James
Lee Clement Jr.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Bowman, Eldon Castle,
Robert Castle, Robert Tredway, Ray Lackey and Vernon Roberts.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at
Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Bonham, TX from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
