Biography: My interest in family history unfortunately did not stir soon enough to
get the answers to questions about my family until most of my family had passed
on. Our family originated in Mt. Pleasant, Titus Co, TX, moved to Wichita Falls
TX, and then onto San Diego, CA (Lemon Grove) at the outbreak of WWII, where my
father worked as a machinist on aircraft at Rohr Industries. At the end of the
war, for the next twenty years, he
ran several businesses (shoe repair & laundromat) until it was time to
retire and then they made their way back home to Mt. Pleasant, TX.
I was the only member of my family born outside of TX and drawn out as it was,
that put approximately seven (7) years of age between my two older brothers, my
older sister and myself. I was fifteen when my Dad turned sixty, and always got
a strange look when I related to my friend that my Dad was born ahead of the
century (1899). I moved with the folks back to Mt. Pleasant TX, but felt the
need to return to San Diego, CA, and did so where I met my wife and have been
here since and raised a son, two daughters, and we now have seven (7) beautiful
granddaughters.
My interest is to perpetuate my family information and make sure it is not lost
by passing it along to all of my children of course and my cousin's that would
like to have the information I have put together.
Note per Dave Broeker, VDHA Webmaster: Wayne said he took this photo the
last time he saw Chinook just before leaving that day ~ on “Herron’s Hill” just
overlooking the runway next to the K-9 graveyard.
