Subject: Gary Cannon, Gary Village1, Birch Caiado
My Scout Dog best friend, Gary Birch (Scout Dog "KIM"), from MCRD Parris
Island Boot Camp, Infantry Training Regiment (ITR), Scout Dog School at Ft.
Benning, Staging Battalion and Nam died this morning after getting a liver
transplant at the VA, last year. He died of complications from that
operation and was also in a coma for 6 months after the operation. Yeah, VA
doctors learning to be doctors on Nam vets and now these young kids coming
home from Iraq and Afghanistan!
I spoke with him 2 weeks ago about getting the VA to get his liver rated
and, like "Bama" Cooper, he was working on it and died waiting. His wife is
up in Ohio and I'm waiting to find out more information. Don't know if I can
go nor do I think I can stomach it. I think he just turned 59. All those
WWII vets got to live into the 80-90 range and die in Florida. Anyway, I've
told you guys before, when I had Agent Orange cancer, get tested, get rated
and enjoy life a little better knowing that you've got the free medical care
and all the other bennies that come from being rated 100% compensable. I'm
pretty sure that everything we've got wrong with us can be traced to the
defoliants used in our Tactical Areas of Operation (TAOR).
Doc, I was leaving for Florida today or tomorrow. I don't know what I'm
doing now but I also have an elderly Mother living in Florida and should
visit her. I'll call ya. Bye, Eddie C.
