Terry Bryan & Smokey-3X98 U-Tapao, Thailand 1971-1973 Biography: I served 18 months at U-Tapao and then after a 12 month tour at Dyess AFB
returned to Udorn for and additional 12 months. Guess I just got use to the thrill of Thailand or maybe just didn't like stateside duty.:)
Ended up marrying an officer and punched out of the service, took a 10%
disability on the way out for a knee injury I got at Udorn, and followed her career taking us to Wright Paterson AFB and then the US Air Force Academy. I have run martial arts schools around the country, was the head coach for the Air Force Academy karate team and probably best known as the
crazy guy that caught a arrow blindfolded on Ripley's Believe It or Not. www.Warriorwiz.com. Guess if you are
crazy enough to lay in the bush with cobra's and pit vipers, your crazy enough
to do anything huh?
I currently teach business, marketing and investing, and in this market maybe
working a sentry dog is a lot safer.:)
I ended up watching them put Smokey 3X98 to sleep and do a Neucropsy on him,
one of the toughest things I ever had to do. I have put those days behind me
over the years, but remember them at the same time. Still today, my wife says
that when I smell certain smells, or hear a helicopter, or .. that I seem to
drift into another place, and I guess its true.
Six years ago I was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, 90% chance of
death, but have beaten it so far and then 18 months later, got throat cancer...
again, so far so good. I live a pretty healthy life and everyone says
I shouldn't have these issues, but then again I walked through a lot of dead
vegetation outside the perimeter thanks to Red Horse and I can almost guarantee
that has something to do with it, although I am sure the VA would have a
different story about the use or impact the herbicides had.:)
Feel free to share any and all info to our fellow comrades. As the toast
goes, " Here's to those like us, so damn few
left."
Respectfully,
Terry Bryan, The Black Belt Investor
