Subject: picture with caption "Did you handle Major-4X08"?
I recognize the dog in the picture to be Major-4X08. I do not recognize the
handler.(Webmaster: Handler is Don Spencer who did not serve in Vietnam) I do however recognize the shoulder patch he is wearing. This was the
patch of the 397th CDS Dow AFB, Maine. I served as a dog handler at Dow from 1965
thru 1967 until I was reassigned to PACAF Bien Hoa, Vietnam. While at Dow I
handled Sargent 671F. Major was handled by Hubbard. Don't remember
his first name. I don't know where Hubbard was reassigned when Dow was
closed in 1968 or what became of our dogs. I do know that I took our unit patch
to Vietnam and wore it while at Bien Hoa. I had 50 made for 1000.P, about
$12.00 bucks, and shared with other handlers I met in country. I see now that
one of the units up North adopted the patch as there own. Na Trang maybe? Hope I didn't muddy the water too much. I hope this
sheds a little light on the picture in question.Yours truly,Dave Rudd3rd SPS 1968, 1969 |
