BOOGE - X297 | | | |
At the Bien Hoa obstacle course.
Oral, South Dakota, near Mount Rushmore, was Booge's home before the
USAF. Upon arriving stateside, post-VN in the dead of a 1969/70 winter,
one of Boogie's handlers looked up the family that donated this dog.
They had a reunion at the donor's home where most of the entire town
(all 60 or so of them) turned out to see his pix and hear his war stories.
When asked why they had given up such a pretty dog, the owner related
that they had wanted a dog who would help herd their sheep into the
holding pen at the end of each day. Booge, he said, stood in the gate
barking, keeping them out. Charles A. Lee |
