Me and Prince at the kennels during training Biography: Norbert “Dave” Yanez – Entered the Air Force
September of 1958. First duty station was the 7560th Air
Police Sq at RAF Alconbury England. Went to RAF Sculthorpe in 1960. After
3 years I was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ with the 803rd
Combat Defense Squadron, SAC. Stayed there 6 years. Worked the K-9
section from 64-68. First Dog was Duke, great dog. Nothing could get by
him. Second Dog was Saint, was a pistol. Third dog was another Duke. He
was car crazy. Would always start barking whenever a vehicle approached.
Only dog I ever worked that needed a spiked choke chain. In 1968 received
orders to Talkli, Thailand. We had to go to Lackland Dog School to pick up new
dog. Was there for two weeks. We then left Kelly aboard a C-141 with 200
dogs. We dropped off dogs and handlers at four Vietnam bases before
reaching Thailand. Assigned to the 355 Security Police Squadron. Worked
Silver for about a month. Was not a very good dog. I was then assigned
Prince. He was a great dog. Very aggressive and loyal dog. Left
there and went to Lackland to MTI school. Was there for three
years. Tried to extend. Said no, Air Police career field
critical. Put in to cross train, was approved. Next assignment Luke
AFB, AZ, one year. Next assignment Albrook AFS, Canal Zone Panama. There
for three years, then back to Luke AFB. Retired in July of 1981. |
