James W. Plummer, age 79 of Manistee, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
Born January 21, 1946, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jim was the son of the late Earl and Ruth (Saalfrank) Plummer. He graduated from Southside High School in Fort Wayne, Class of 1963. He then attended Indiana University's School of Business, graduating in 1968. He was a member of First Christian Church in Fort Wayne.
Jim went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, where he was a scout dog handler with his beloved dog, Rebel. Jim served from 1968-1970, with an honorable discharge.
He enjoyed traveling across the country as a real estate specialist with the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, from 1971 until he retired in 1996.
After retirement, Jim moved to Harbor Village at Manistee Beach, where he was an active member of the Board of Directors in various roles, including property beautification and landscaping.
Jim enjoyed outdoor activities, especially camping, gardening, and landscaping. He was well known for his green thumb and beautiful flower gardens. Living near the shores of Lake Michigan, he explored his love of boating and was a member of the Manistee Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Jim enjoyed hosting annual vacations for family and friends in Michigan and Florida. His relaxed style, witty sense of humor, and generosity were appreciated by all who knew him.
He is survived by his sister, Jan Brodie (Bill), nieces Nicole Norman (Brad) and Shawna Violett, nephew Chris Brodie (Jennifer), and 6 great nieces and nephews.
Jim's life will be celebrated with ceremonies to be held in Indiana and Michigan this summer. He will be buried in the Plummer family plot at Elm Grove cemetery, Bluffton, Indiana.
